Hold onto your hats, folks! We are so excited to share that our Founder and Team Leader Muthi has secured two prestigious fellowships: The Ashoka Leadership Fellowship and the African Visionary Fellowship!

The Ashoka Leadership Fellowship is a globally renowned program that recognizes and supports social entrepreneurs who are solving the world’s most pressing challenges. As an Ashoka Fellow, Muthi will join a network of pioneering leaders who are reimagining solutions to complex societal issues, equipping him with the resources, mentorship, and platform to scale his transformative work.

Similarly, his induction into the African Visionary Fellowship demonstrates his dedication to grassroots innovation and community-driven development. This fellowship, designed to amplify the impact of African changemakers, will provide Muthi with tailored support, leadership development, and access to a vibrant community of visionaries committed to creating sustainable and equitable solutions for the African continent.

In Muthi’s own words, “This is quite overwhelming, but I honestly feel that I owe this to my team and for all the work we have accomplished together. Groundwater is often overlooked and misunderstood, and these fellowships are already inspiring me to be more intentional in my work as we find new ways of making groundwater, an invisible resource, more visible to the world.”

BASEflow has played a pivotal role in monitoring and safeguarding groundwater use through groundwater monitoring, comprehensive data collection and reporting, and the use of cutting-edge technologies, to track groundwater levels, quality, and usage. This data-driven approach will provide the foundation for informed decision-making and effective resource management for government and non-governmental partners, which is the first step to creating a unified sectoral approach to tackle various pressing water-related issues in Malawi.

As he embarks on this dual fellowship, we celebrate his achievements and look forward to the incredible impact he will continue to make in the water sector in Malawi, and beyond. His selection in both prestigious fellowships shine a spotlight on the potential for the young African leaders who are working to inspire global transformation. Congratulations, bwana (yes, we know you don’t like being called that :-))! The world is watching, and we are excited to see you soar to even greater heights.
