With close to 52000 across rural Malawi, the Mjigo (or Afridev handpump) is the most popular water supply technology of choice, providing potable water to 62% of the country’s population. However, there have been growing sentiments, even from prominent public figures, that the Mjigo should be retired in favor of reticulated piped systems which bring the water closer to people’s homes. But are these sentiments against the Mjigo warranted?
Muthi, our Team Leader, was invited by the Malawi Institute of Engineers Central Region Chapter to hold a webinar where he was to make a case for the Mjigo. This is a recording of his presentation. If you have an hour to spare – give it a listen.
